Olivia Palermo

Who doesn’t love stylish ‘reality’ TV…?

For some The Hills and its east coast sister ‘The City’ have become guilty pleasures. But to anyone who likes fashion, the lives of the casts are in parts enviable. My parts, I mean the killer internships and a Louboutin kick in the right direction to a career in fashion.

Cast as The City ‘Bitch’, Olivia Palermo may have caused a divide between fans with her no messing attitude and enviable contacts of fashion insider. Marc Jacobs on speed dial. Me, Jealous? Never.

Palermo has added definite spice to the show. I mean lets be honest Whitney Port, the show’s star doesn’t offer much with her nicer than nice girl personality.

Another, teeny, tiny wow factor Olivia brings to the show is her style.

Posing for her first british cover, ASOS magazine treats us to some stylish delights from the New York fashionista.

She might be the ‘bitch’ but who cares. She works for ELLE, has perfectly tossled hair and has an ever-so-stylish wardrobe that anyone would be envious of.

My fav piece from Olivia’s ASOS shoot: Barbour Jacket- Stylish and sure to be a A/W essential!!

Lissie

I read briefly about a girl called Lissie a couple of months ago, however as I was slowly but surely climbing a mountain of uni work I never got chance to investigate all the hype.

So now I’m free as a bird with nothing to do but apply for jobs, search the web for fashion garments that I can’t afford until I get that job and create new playlists. So I’ve finally got around to Lissie and what a joy!

I was a little hesitant until I realised that her EP, Why You Runnin was produced by Band of Horses Bill Reynolds. I listened and loved.

The classically california looking and effortlessly ‘cool’ Lissie was described by the Guardian as ‘A guitar-toting Americana lovechild who belongs to the 1970’s’ and to be honest this sort of sums up her stuff.

Expect folk, rock and roll with definite soul. On first listen you might be wondering if you’ve got yourself into a wannabe Joni Mitchell with an electric guitar but fear not.

Little Lovin’ taken from Catching A Tiger is soulful. It’s like listening to Martha Wainwright fused with Stevie Nicks and a hint of Joni’s classic heartfelt lyrics.

Check her out… you’ll be surprised!

Darling Drew

Read any current fashion magazine, web site or blog and they will all tell you to think 50’s for some style inspiration. So… calf length skirts, blouses, pretty cardigans and a pony tail. In short this could easily translate to Grandma’s wardrobe in 0.5 seconds without care and attention.

So when I saw this photo of Drew Barrymore, the once ET cutie, adorably funny Never Been Kissed Josie and my favourite Charlie’s Angel, I breathed a sigh of relief. Thank god for Drew, she’s successfully shown us how to pull off the somewhat tricky trend whilst remaining cool and unbelievably sexy.

I love how she’s kept the bright and bold shades, ensuring a hint of youth and her sparkly personally remain. Drew, who has most definitely become a seriously fashion player in Lala land of late, is even one step ahead wearing soon to be fashions fav colour with cheery peep toe pumps.

She’s come along way from fast talking Summer…

After undoubtedly over taking her OC c0-star, Mischa Barton, along with the rest of Hollywood, to the weekly daily best dressed lists. Rachel Bilson seems to be able to do no wrong in the fashion world.

Recently snapped in LA wearing a simple black smock dress with a summer essential denim jacket in hand.  Bilson gets another fashion nod for pairing her could be plain Jane outfit with sling back clogs, trusty Ray-Bans and some classic Chanel, of course.

Unlike Rach, there is zero chance of me walking around LA this summer. So why not swap the clogs for some Hunters (preferably Jimmy Choo’s) and go from LA chic to festival cool. Very clever.

John Lewis. Spring 2010.

I love promotion… been a Fashion & Brand Promotion student this shouldn’t come as a surprise. But it’s rare that I truly feel like a one and a half minute tv ad can capture my attention and make me want to youtube it!!

I was eating my tea this evening and caught my first glance of the Spring 10 John Lewis TV Advert.

John Lewis have recently come out with some marvelous promotional pieces. I caught a late night tv show about their new promotional route a couple of weeks ago and learnt that they have started to work with young, contemporary promotions agency Adam & Eve.

Everything about  Adam & Eve’s work with John Lewis is so personable and fresh. But it still rings true to the brand’s values- quality service which wont be beaten and price to complement products. The outcome which they achieve is brilliant and perfect promotion… in my eyes! Enjoy.

Make Up Vlogs

I’ve recently spent lots of time looking and watching video blogs otherwise known as Vlogs. Mainly because I have focused my final year dissertation around the concept of a vlog.

So I thought I would share a vlog which I have enjoyed watching. It’s by Boots No7 Make Up artist Lisa Eldridge. Eldridge, make up artists to the stars, catwalk runaways and magazines shoots. Has basically started to create a whole archive of vlog where she talks viewers through make up looks. Creating the looks on herself during the videos, she gives some great tips and advice and uses a whole range of different products. Varying in price and brand.

Although I’ve watched a couple of make up/cosmetic related vlogs. I really do think that Lias’s is the best; she’s friendly, knows what she’s talking about, creates easy to achieve looks and her vlogs are very professional. Added bonus she’s pretty fashion forward meaning that all of her looks are on trend if not slightly ahead!

I like this specific vlog best so far… Soft Coral.

Enjoy… x
