Armed with some free tickets, I along with my lovely boy hit the cinema on Friday evening for some free box office treats.
Typically my first choice was a rom-com and his was anything other. Having travelled all day, draging a bulging bag from Stoke, around London and all the way to a small weekly newspaper, where my cinema date reports the local Kent news. I trumped him, obviously!
So off we trotted to see Going the Distance staring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long.
A love story about a young couple trying to figure out how to keep up a relationship with the pressures of work, life and small factor of living opposites sides of the country.
I adore Drew Barrymore, but she shines playing Erin, a 30 year old journalism intern who’s a tough cookie; determined, passionate and straight to the point with everything from career, relationship and sex.
Barrymore’s effortless charm beams through to her love struck character making for a charming and friendly presence on screen.
Other charming factors include Drew’s wardrobe throughout the film. Wearing everything from jeans and a T-shirt to a suit, embellished tee’s, floaty blouses, boyfriend blazers and a even a stylish dickie bow. The actress, who appears to have graced all fashion glossies of late, definitely brought some of her indie glam style to set for inspiration.
The film doesn’t just consist of a stylish Drew but a crude sense of humor. With plenty of sex jokes, innuendo’s and sometimes even dry humping gags.
Even if the jokes are a little bit questionable at times, Going the Distance is funny and real, it’s a romantic comedy at it’s best. Slightly edgy with a little bit of umph and great music from The Boxer Rebellion.
Even my lovely date enjoyed it! Who’d of thought it ay?
